Growing up here in Oakland, as I was finding what I wanted to do, I knew I wanted to help people. Also, I love technology. So radiology fits me.
There’s a lot of opportunities in this profession. You can climb up really fast. You can start in X-ray and then move to the CT scan, move up to MRI, move up to so many specialties in imaging. Being an X-ray tech is the foundation, and Highland has offered all these other modalities to us, where I can climb.
I’m part of the HEAL Program, and I love seeing the faces of these youths and their stories. These students look at me and where I come from, and it gives them hope and motivation that they can be successful and have a career in health, just like me. It’s not only a good salary, but you’re also making a difference in people’s lives and serving your own community.
I tell the students they are so lucky to have HEAL. One of the things I didn’t have growing up was support or someone to look up to. I’m thankful that I’m able to help with that. Help them find the right path.
You know, my close friend passed away here. A lot of my family and community gets care here. And when they come here, I want to make sure they have the best experience they could possibly get. At Highland, we really do care and want the best for them.
I’m happy at what I have accomplished so far in life in terms of graduating from college, having a job, supporting my family. I’m able to do what I love, which is radiology tech, and able to excel.
I chose the right profession. I chose the right hospital. I’m happy to be here.
